Hodgkinson recorded her fastest time of one minute 54.61 seconds the previous season in London.

The Olympic champion finished her 800m season with a triumph at the all-female Athlos event in NYC on Friday night.

{The reigning Olympic champion, who secured bronze at the World Championships recently, excelled in an outstanding win in one minute 56.53 seconds in what was just her sixth appearance in a season affected by a hamstring injury.

Fellow Briton and global silver winner Georgia Hunter Bell took the runner-up spot once more in 1:58.33, while St Vincent's Shafiqua Maloney (one minute 58.57) secured third place.

"I've barely raced this year so it was likely less of a struggle for me to compete and want to give it something," said the 23-year-old.

"The atmosphere at the event is incredible so it was extremely enjoyable."

The female-exclusive meet packed the stadium in its second year, bringing a festive vibe to conventional athletics, with live music and Tiffany & Co. crowns substituting traditional winners' medals.

The tennis legend with 23 major titles Serena Williams, who is wed to the founder of Athlos Alexis Ohanian, was present to present the victors with their crowns.

Previous champions received sixty thousand dollars (ÂŁ44,603) - among the biggest cash prizes in athletics.

The competition also attracted some of the sport's biggest names, as the Kenyan three-time Olympic gold medallist and world record holder Faith K. triumphed in the mile race, crossing the finish line in four hours 17.78 minutes.

American Brittany Brown, the 200m bronze medallist from the recent Paris Games, secured the sprint double.
